Auditions for Willy Wonka and The Aracoma Story Announced

Logan, West Virginia – April 21, 2008  – Audition dates and times have been announced by The Aracoma Story, Inc. for the upcoming 2009 Summer Season.  This summer’s productions will include Willy Wonka and The Aracoma Story at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheatre in Chief Logan State Park.  “This summer has the potential to be one of our most memorable seasons ever!” says The Aracoma Story, Inc’s President, Jim Frye.  Willy Wonka will be one of the most enjoyable family shows to ever grace our stage and this year’s newly revised production of The Aracoma Story will continue a tradition of bringing the history of our area to life.  We are excited about the upcoming season!”

Auditions for Willy Wonka will be held in Logan, West Virginia at the Logan High School Theater on Friday, May 15th and Saturday, May 16th.  Friday auditions will be from 5pm – 9pm.  Saturday auditions will be from 10am – 6pm.  Call-backs are planned for Sunday, May 17th from 2pm-6pm.  Auditions are open to men, women, boys and girls of all ages. There are both singing and non-singing roles.   Those planning to audition for Willy Wonka should be prepared to sing a 30 second piece from the song of their choice.  Songs from the show are acceptable, but not mandatory.  Please bring the sheet music to your song.  An accompanist will be provided at the audition.  A minimum of 6 men and 6 women, as well as a multitude of boys and girls are needed to cast this show.  Robyn Berg will serve as the Guest Director for this musical production of Willy Wonka.  Miss Berg is a New York based professional Director, Actress, and Instructor who brings with her a diverse background and training in musical theatre including voice, choreography, acting techniques and stage combat.  Serving as the Musical Director will be Kathryn Holmes for Birmingham, AL.  Miss Holmes is a 2005 magna cum laude graduate of Birmingham-Southern College with a B.A. in Theatre.  She has work as a Musical Director and Vocal Coach at several theatres throughout the South. 

Auditions for The Aracoma Story will also be held at the Logan High School Theater on Friday, May 15th and Saturday, May 16th. Friday auditions will be from 5pm9pm.  Saturday auditions will be from 10am6pm.  Early auditions for The Aracoma Story will be held for students and residents of the Chapmanville Area on Thursday, May 7th from 4:30pm7:30pm at the Chapmanville Regional High School’s Theatre and on Thursday, May 14th students and residents of the Man and Logan Area can audition from 3pm6pm at the Logan High School Theatre.  Call-backs for all auditions are planned for Sunday, May 17th from 2pm-6pm at the Logan High School Theatre.  Auditions are open to everyone and no previous acting experience is necessary.  All roles for this show are non-singing roles.  Those planning to audition for The Aracoma Story should be prepared to read a scene from the show which will be provided upon arrival.  There are several roles available for men, women, boys and girls of all ages.  Local Personality and TAS Veteran, Bill France will be directing this year’s production of The Aracoma Story – Spirits and Legends has a new name to reflect the recently rewritten script which has modernized the telling of the story.  “Great things are expected with this year’s presentation of The Aracoma Story” adds Frye.  “A new way of telling the story along with some new characters will bring new excitement!  This year’s show will be a “must see” for everyone who has ever seen The Aracoma Story in previous years.”

Show dates for Willy Wonka will be from June 16th – July 5th while show dates for The Aracoma Story will be from July 21st – August 8th.  Rehearsals for each show will begin approximately four weeks prior to the show’s opening date.  All performances are at the Liz Spurlock Amphitheatre in Chief Logan State Park.  Shows run Tuesday through Saturday nights with a special Sunday night performance of Willy Wonka on July 5th.  All shows begin promptly at 8:30pm.
